Thirty minutes a day might change your life — that is, if you’re ready to go nine rounds.

Anthony and Cynthia Estrella are the new owners of 9Round gym in the Target Shopping Center in Goleta, and they are ready to help kick you into shape.

“We are thrilled to reopen the Goleta location and welcome back our 9Round family,” Anthony Estrella said. “We are looking forward to helping our community engage in a healthier lifestyle through kickboxing fitness.”

The gym, at 6831 Hollister Ave., closed March 18 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and between then and now the Estrellas acquired ownership of the gym.

“The opportunity presented itself to take ownership of this local gym, and we said, ‘Let’s try it,” Anthony Estrella said. “You never know if you don’t try.”

The gym is divided into nine stations where people take part in activities for 3 minutes. Stations include punching and kick bags, dumb bells, kettle bells, medicine balls, and a variety of kickboxing-themed fitness stations that incorporate interval, cardiovascular and circuit training regimens.

The Estrellas are a Goleta family with three kids, ages 10, 6 and 3. They met 20 years ago while in college, and even then they dreamed of owning a business.

“We’re just really looking forward to getting out into the community and showing them a different way to get fit, to stay healthy,” Cynthia Estrella said. “This can be a family environment. We’re looking forward to having families come in here, young kids, we have young kids, so we are happy to be in that community and be able to build that up a little bit more.”

Anthony Estrella said the kind of workout the gym offers is what people need, even if they don’t know it.

“If they can try it out for themselves, at least one time, they will see, ‘Yeah, I can make this happen,’” Estrella said. “After they are done, they are pouring sweat, they are very tired, but they are very accomplished and they feel really good. Throughout the rest of the day you feel like you have overcome an obstacle and you are ahead of the game already.”

Membership costs range from $99 to $139 a month. Membership comes with a set of gloves, a set of handwraps, choice of colors and a heart-rate monitor.

9Round Franchising LLC has introduced new health and sanitation guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Members must book workouts in advance to maintain reduced capacity and practice social distancing.

Zizzo’s Fizzles

Zizzo’s Coffee at 370 Storke Road in Goleta has poured its last cup of coffee.

The drive-thru destination near the Camino Real Marketplace closed its doors last week.

“Due to circumstances beyond our control, it is with a heavy heart that after 12 amazing years, Zizzo’s Coffee will have to close,” the owners wrote on Facebook. “I speak on behalf of the Zizzo’s teams past and present in saying that it has been an absolute pleasure serving you, the community.”

It’s unclear what the future holds for the site. A year ago, the City of Goleta approved the site for a marijuana dispensary. However, the owner of the property in November 2019 submitted plans for a four-bay gas station at the site of the current car wash behind Zizzo’s.

“Many customer relationships have been built over the years,” the Facebook post stated. “We have attended customer birthday parties, weddings and, sadly, funerals. We have watched our youngest smoothie-loving customers grow up to be college graduates. We have witnessed numerous first dates, and couples fall in love and start families.”

Dutch Garden Closes

Dutch Garden restaurant, 4203 State St. in Santa Barbara, closed its doors on Thursday.

The restaurant opened 35 years ago.

“It’s been a great run. Thank you to our patrons,” the restaurant’s voicemail greeting stated Thursday evening.
