Nordhoff built a 28-0 halftime lead against Carpinteria and rolled to a 45-7 win over the host Warriors in the Citrus Coast League football opener on Friday night,
Nordhoff running back Korey Stevens rushed for two touchdowns and quarterback Leeram Stoneman ran for a score and passed for another.
Carpinteria got a 2-yard touchdown run from Will Collins in the third quarter.
The Warriors had trouble stopping Nordhoff’s diversified offense. Stoneman gave the Rangers a 7-0 lead with a 5-yard touchdown run and Jake Palmer kicked the first of his six PATs at 7:26 of the first quarter.
Stevens scored on a 5-yard run on the first play of the second quarter and Stoneman hit Palmer for a 68-yard passing touchdown for a 21-0 lead in the quarter. Stevens tacked on one more score before halftime on a 10-yard run.
“We had some bright spots with Diego Hernandez having an interception, Jacob Mata playing well at defensive end and Will Collins scoring on a 2 yard touchdown,” Carpinteria coach Mario Robinson said. “We need to start games with more focus and execute on offense and improve tackling.”
Eli Dvortcsak’s run from 2 yards put the Rangers ahead 35-0 before Collins answered for Carpinteria.
Nordhoff improves to 3-2 overall while Carpinteria falls to 1-3. The Warriors travel to Fillmore next Friday.
