A two-story, single-family home in Isla Vista was destroyed by fire early Tuesday, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The blaze on the 6600 block of Abrego Road was reported shortly after 3 a.m., said fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli.

The first firefighters on scene found the building engulfed in flames, Bertucelli said, and called in a second alarm that included an engine from the city of Santa Barbara.

“Crews were unable to get close to the structure due to the heat,” Bertucelli said, and went into a “defensive mode” to battle the flames from a safe distance.

The structure reportedly was vacant, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators responded to the scene to search for the cause of the blaze.
