An unwelcome summer visitor wreaked some havoc Wednesday morning in the Cuyama Valley of northeastern Santa Barbara County.

At 6:34 a.m., Santa Barbara County firefighters were dispatched to a home on the 2400 block of Santa Barbara Canyon Road, according to fire Capt. Scott Safechuck.

Firefighters discovered a bear had entered a laundry room, broke a water pipe and was found enjoying the water leak, Safechuck added.

Firefighters from Cuyama’s Station 37 helped evacuate the bear which immediately climbed a tree, he added.

Two months ago, a bear cub was found playing in a sprinkler at a Cuyama church before settling down to nap in a nearby yard. That bear was relocated to the remote hills outside of the community.
