  • The MVPs of the Noozhawk All South Coast Football Team were Bishop Diego running back Qu’Ran Gossett and defensive lineman Logologo Va’a
  • Four of the five offensive line of the All South Coast team are Ryan Holguin and Daniel Arrellano of Santa Barbara and Jayden Martinez and Pasefika Salatielu of Bishop Diego. Johnny Perez of Santa Barbara was not present.
  • The offensive backs named were Andre McCullough of San Marcos, Abel Renteria of Santa Barbara, Will Bouma of Cate School; Isaac Burquez of Bishop Diego and Cameron Lee of Dos Pueblos.
  • The receiving corps includes Benji Rodriguez of San Marcos, Santa Barbara’s Trent Williams and Mason Oetgen of Cate.
  • Michael Luckhurst of Bishop Diego was the special teams player. He kicked and punted for the Cardinals.
  • Bishop Diego’s Sué Luamanu, Maddox Stretz and Joseph Nanai were joined on the defensive unit by David Buso and Merrick Foster of Dos Pueblos.
  • Linebacker/defensive back group includes Bishop Diego’s Hunter Boeddeker, Grant Gonzales, Vince Gamberdella and Nathan Barrios of Santa Barbara, Johnny Alvarado and Bryan Trejo of Bishop Diego and Owen Lauderdale of San Marcos.

A day after the Super Bowl, high school football was celebrated at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon as Noozhawk presented its 2021 All-South Coast Football Team.

Bishop Diego junior running back Qu'ran Gossett and senior lineman Logologo Va'a were honored as the Offensive and Defensive MVPs of the 28-member team, which is selected by Noozhawk Sports Editor Barry Punzal.

Va'a recently signed a letter of intent with the University of Texas at El Paso.

Bishop Diego led the team with 12 honorees. The other Cardinals named were lineman Sué Luamanu, lineman Joseph Nanai, linebacker Maddox Stretz, linebacker Hunter Boeddeker, defensive back Bryan Trejo and defensive Johnny Alvarado on defense; kicker/punter Jack Luckhurst; and offensive lineman Pasefika Salatielu, lineman Jayden Martinez and running back Isaac Burquez.

Nanai recently signed with Portland State and Luckhurst with Cal.

Santa Barbara High had eight players on the squad. On the offense were the line trio of Ryan Holguin, Johnny Perez and Daniel Arrellano, quarterback Abel Renteria and wide receiver Trent Williams. Linebackers Nathan Barrios, Vince Gamberdella and Grant Gonzales all made the defensive team.

From Dos Pueblos, running back Cameron Lee, linebacker David Buso and lineman Merrick Foster were recognized on the team.

San Marcos had running back Andre McCullough, receiver Benji Rodriguez and linebacker Owen Lauderdale selected.

Cate School, which won the CIF-SS Division 1 8-man title, was led by quarterback Will Bouma and wide receiver Mason Oetgen.
