A suspect was arrested for allegedly burglarizing a business on the city’s Eastside late Wednesday night, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale confirmed that an arrest was made early Thursday on the 600 block of Milpas Street, but he told Noozhawk he could not give any further information because the case is still under investigation.

“The case is still evolving, there are still detectives that are investigating, and we are trying to figure out if it’s linked to anyone else,” Ragsdale said, adding that there will be more detailed information coming out Friday that might involve some other recent burglaries in the Santa Barbara and Goleta area.

While the police could not confirm additional details, witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man attempting to cut a hole through the roof into the Joyeria Latina Americana jewelry store.

At some point, the man ended up in the Domino’s pizza shop, which is attached to the jewelry store storefront, with employees still inside, witnesses said.

The man then reportedly climbed back onto the rooftops and attempted to evade officers.

He then tried to escape off a low part of the roof and was apprehended by police a short time later, the witness added.

The suspect’s name was not released by police.
