A man was found dead after being swept down Maria Ygnacio Creek in the Goleta Valley Saturday afternoon during a storm that dropped heavy rainfall on the region.

Personnel from Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue, County Fire, the Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response and the California Highway Patrol responded to the 1100 block of North San Marcos Road around 12 p.m. for a water rescue.

Family members called 9-1-1 to report that a man had been swept into Maria Ygnacio Creek, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Raquel Zick said.

Multiple agencies coordinated a search in the area, and the man was found deceased in the creek near San Marcos Road and Via Parva around 1:50 p.m., Zick said.

His name was not released Saturday, and is being held pending notification of next of kin, she said.

The adult male victim was last seen stranded in the creek in the area of North San Marcos Road, County Fire Capt. Mike Gray said.Ā

A Santa Barbara County Air Support helicopter and Ventura County Air Support helicopter responded to the scene to help locate the victim, Zick said.

No other injuries or missing persons were reported in the incident, Gray said.

Creek and river flows surged along the Santa Barbara South Coast Saturday after heavy rains, and there were widespread roadway closures due to flooding.
