The 21st annual Barbara Ireland Walk & Run, hosted by the Cancer Foundation of Santa Barbara, had more than 125 participants and raised $31,865 (funds are still being counted, so the total could increase).

All of the money supports breast cancer patients through the genetic counseling, patient navigation and research program at Ridley-Tree Cancer Center at Sansum Clinic. The Walk/Run has raised in excess of $850,000 since its inception.

The event culminated in a virtual presentation on March 13.

This year the coveted Pink Ribbon Trophy was presented to Save 2nd Base! for raising the most money by noon on March 12. Awards were also presented to the Largest Team, SBGAL; Best Quaranteam, Jamie’s Team; Social Media Influencer Heidi Heitkamp; Best Costume, Karen Barteld; and Best Finish Line, Angie Au.

The virtual, family friendly event included the 1M Shamrock Shuffle; 5K Leprechaun Leap; 5M Happy St. Paddy; 10K Irish Jig; and the 15KPot of Gold. Participants received a prize for each distance completed.

Through support from this event, the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center offers breast cancer patients access to a Clinical Research Program, which includes a global network of clinical trials that target a variety of cancer diagnoses, a benefit not afforded by all cancer treatment facilities.

The Walk/Run also benefits the center’s genetic counseling and patient navigation services. These programs allow the Ridley-Tree Cancer Center to provide breast cancer patients with comprehensive, personalized resources, and care to assist them and their families on their journey with cancer.
