The CIF-SS Division 5-champion Bishop Diego girls basketball team drew the No. 14 seed for the CIF State Regionals on Sunday.

The Cardinals (27-4) will play at No. 3 Carlsbad (18-14) in the first round of the Southern Regional on Tuesday night. Carlsbad won the San Diego Section Division 1 title, beating Imperial, 54-50.

Bishop Diego won its fourth CIF-SS girls basketball championship in program history, edging Burbank-Burroughs, 42-41, on Saturday at Azusa Pacific University. It was the second title for coach Jeff Burich, who guided the Cardinals to the 2015 crown. The other two titles came in 1977 and 1978 under coach Linda “Cookie” Dawson.

From the North County, the St. Joseph boys and girls both received regional bids. The Knights boys, 30-2 and the Division 1 Central Section champions, were seeded third in the 12-team Open Division and drew No. 6 Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks for a first-round game on Wednesday.

The St. Joseph girls (13-15) were seeded second in the Division 2 Regional and play host to Venice of the L.A. City Section on Tuesday. The Knights lost to eventual champion Clovis West in the section quarterfinals.
