Bishop Diego girls soccer clinched a playoff spot with a 4-0 victory over Dunn on Monday in Los Olivos.
The Cardinals (5-9-3, 4-1-3 Frontier League) ended the Frontier League season in second place, earning an automatic bid into the CIF-SS playoffs for their first postseason appearance since 2022.
“The team has steadily improved all year long and has kept their heads up during a strong schedule of play,” Bishop Diego head coach Dillan Bennett said. “There have been games where we’ve been beaten up physically and emotionally.
“As we get ready to play teams that are of a similar competitive level, we can see how much more physical we are, how much more aggressive we are, and how the battles early in the year have paid off.”
In Monday’s victory, Haley Hubbs scored a pair of goals and dished out an assist while Mia Desales and Bryleigh Laurent each scored once.
On the defensive end, Bishop Diego held Dunn to just nine shots on goal in the victory.
“Keisi Calel has stepped up on the defensive end to help out Abbie and Kaitlyn,” Bennett said. “Offensively, we’re starting to possess the ball better, distribute through the middle, and get out on breakaway runs with relative ease.
“Amaya Martinez is a big reason why our ball handling has improved in the midfield. As a team, I don’t know how we could better prepare for the playoffs.”
The Cardinals will round out the regular season by hosting Del Sol for Senior Day on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
