Bishop Diego shined on the hardwood this winter, with the girls basketball team capturing the CIF-SS Division 5 championship and the boys squad rolling to an undefeated Tri-Valley League season and title.

As a result of their team success, the Cardinal basketball student-athletes headlined the impressive number of All-League honorees for Bishop Diego’s winter sports.

Boys Basketball

Bishop Diego first-year head coach Caleb Richey made quite the first impression in the Tri-Valley League, leading his squad to a perfect 8-0 against league opponents and the league championship. He was named the Tri-Valley League Coach of the Year.

Junior Crew Sjovold was in the middle of the action all season for the Cardinals, scoring over 15 points per game en route to the Tri-Valley League Most Valuable Player award.

Senior guard Damien Krautmann and freshman guard Shane Kwizera showcased the present and the future of the program with strong seasons and All-League First Team selections.

Meanwhile, junior guard Rudy Blue and freshman guard Shammah Kwizera also gave fans plenty to look forward to next season with All-League Second Team campaigns.

The senior trio of forward Tua Rojas, forward John Michael Flint and guard Aidan Padilla rounded out their Bishop Diego careers with All-League Honorable Mentions.

Girls Basketball

Senior guard Jaymi Coronado and junior wing Eden Wynne played key roles throughout the regular season and on the program’s run to a fourth CIF-SS title. Their standout performances were rewarded with All-League First Team nods.

The sophomore trio of guard Jeisa Coronado, wing Alyssa Chrestenson and guard Luz Castro proved that there should be more success in the coming years for the Cardinals with All-League Second Team seasons.

Senior forward Kasey Seashore and freshman guard Abby Walters ended and began, respectively, their high school journeys with All-League Honorable Mention nods.

Boys Soccer

The Cardinals boys soccer team had one of its best seasons in recent years, and freshman goalkeeper Bruno Rakowski was a large reason why. Rakowski shined in the net on his way to Tri-Valley League Goalkeeper of the Year honors.

The tandem of senior defender Diego Cortez, junior forward River Castellanos, junior forward Ricardo Diaz-Rea and sophomore midfielder Eduardo Pena did it all for Bishop Diego on their way to All-League First Team selections.

The Cardinal depth continued to shine through on the All-League Second Team, where they were represented by senior defender Santiago Sosa, senior defender Sebastian Garcia, senior midfielder Amari Jones and junior midfielder Fischer Pennestri.

The sophomore trio of midfielder Ivan Gonzalez, defender James Gaggs and midfielder Blake Douglas capped off the team’s honorees as All-League Honorable Mentions.

Girls Soccer (Frontier League)

The Cardinal girls soccer team also had a strong season, finishing second in the Frontier League and clinching a spot in the CIF-SS Division 8 playoffs.

Senior forward Haley Hubbs, junior midfielder Addison Galvez, junior defender Kaitlyn Garcia and junior defender/midfielder Abbie Hubbs stood out for Bishop Diego and represented the team on the All-Frontier League First Team.
