Inside the old General Telephone Co. building at 101 W. Canon Perdido St., longtime Santa Barbara resident Jason Jewell wants to mix luxury storage with a private social scene under his new company, Canon Vaults.
Under this “unique business model,” Jewel said, Canon Vaults will offer conditioned self-storage containers, safety deposit boxes, wine storage, art storage, and a social lounge for select customers to enjoy curated art, music, drinks and conversation.
The facility is still under construction, but Jewell told Noozhawk he hopes to open in May.
“My attitude is that I want to deliver something amazing, something special,” Jewell said. “(This business model) doesn’t exist as far as I could research, having the social lounge with the premium storage.”

Storage prices will range from $100 for a small safety deposit box to $6,000 for a 4,752-cubic-feet premium storage locker.
After obtaining a storage unit, Canon Vaults customers can apply to be a member of the 101 Society, which offers access to the roughly 1,400-square-foot lounge.
The lounge area will include a small art gallery, a meeting room, a bar, wine tasting and storage, and a curated collection of books and vinyls.
Jewell, a former pro squash player and Canon Vaults co-founder and CEO, said he wants members to use the space as an extension of their living room.
“A lot of people with collections need a safe place to store their assets and a lot of people with collections want to share their collection,” Jewell said. “They also want to be around like-minded people that care about art. There’s also the real need for a social outlet, a safe, beautiful place to just be, to use in ways that meet your needs.”
