The body of an 86-year-old, at-risk Santa Barbara man who was reported missing on Monday night was discovered Tuesday in a creek in the Goleta Valley, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.
Peter Knudsen Miller’s family reported him missing after discovering the truck he drove away in stuck in the Maria Ygnacio Creek crossing on the 5000 block of Via Alba, said Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.
“Miller had mobility issues and was not inside the truck,” Zick said.
“When deputies arrived, they found Miller’s pick up truck swept 90 degrees on the roadway, parallel with the current of Maria Ygnacio Creek.”
A sheriff’s K-9 unit, County Fire personnel, and Search & Rescue Team members responded and searched the area Monday night, but were unable to locate Miller.
The search resumed Tuesday, and Miller’s remains were found at about 9 a.m. in the creek south of Cathedral Oaks Road, between Ribera Drive and Poinsettia Way, Zick said.
“The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation,” Zick added, “and could take up to eight weeks.”
