A dominant defensive showing powered Santa Barbara High boys basketball to a 71-34 rout of Buena on Friday inside J.R. Richards Gym.
The Dons set the tone from the opening tip-off and never looked back, allowing single-digit points in the first three quarters before allowing just 12 in the fourth.
Santa Barbara High had 12 players score in the winning effort, and all 13 players played meaningful minutes.
Nate Meister provided plenty of energy off the bench for the Dons, scoring all eight of his points in the fourth quarter. Kash Ridgell and Brent Sharpton shared the team lead in scoring with 11 points apiece.
“It was great to have all 13 of our players get significant minutes tonight,” Santa Barbara High head coach Greg Zuffelato said. “They all work so hard every practice, to have everyone play was a joy to watch.
“We challenged them to play as a team and share the ball, and they listened. It was a balanced attack with everyone getting involved.”
The first-place Dons (15-8, 9-1 Channel League) will head out to Goleta to take on crosstown rival Dos Pueblos on Monday at 7 p.m.
Santa Ynez 71, Lompoc 43
The Pirates rolled to a league victory over the Braves on Friday night.
Lucas Ollenburger did a little bit of everything for Santa Ynez with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists. Meanwhile, Gael Villalobos and Mason Skidmore each scored 11 points of their own.
