Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse shook off a slow start and earned a 15-4 crosstown win over San Marcos on Tuesday at Warkentin Stadium.
The Chargers held a slim 2-0 lead after the first quarter, but quickly grew it to 7-0 by halftime. Dos Pueblos then matched its first-half total in the third to balloon the lead to 14-1 with one quarter to play.
San Marcos found some more offensive success in the fourth with three more goals, but the Chargers held on for the comfortable 15-4 victory.
“I did not think we played our best lacrosse tonight, especially in the first half,” Dos Pueblos head coach Lucas Martinez said. “I think we had to shake a little rust off from Spring Break, but any win in the Channel League is a big win, and I’m glad we were able to show up in the second half.
“I was really proud of how our defense played. We were aggressive and we were creating havoc all over the field.”
Koa Birchim spearheaded the Charger offense with four goals and three assists, while Wyatt Fauver and Austin Fauver each tallied hat tricks.
Finn Nelson-Walker, Julian Lorkovic, Rohan Wansor, Noah Vernon and Dean Wendel all scored once, while Wendel added four steals.
Dos Pueblos (6-4, 4-1 Channel League) will host rival and first-place Santa Barbara High on Thursday at 6 p.m.
