Carpinteria High boys volleyball dropped its non-league matchup with Ventura High in four sets on Wednesday in Ventura, 16-25, 17-25, 25-17, 17-25.

“The boys stayed engaged throughout and continued to battle, especially in the third set where we were able to turn things around,” Carpinteria High head coach Favian Muralles said.

“Even though we didn’t get the result we wanted, it was a great opportunity to compete against a top-100 CIF team. We learned a lot and were able to try new things as a group.”

Alan Maya recorded a double-double for the Warriors with 16 digs and 10 assists, while Jesus Reyes scooped up a team-high 24 digs to go along with six kills.

Meanwhile, Cole Rowbottom led the team with nine kills, Rafael Cintura tallied five kills and Rafael Montes recorded 10 digs, three aces and three kills.

Carpinteria High (9-4) will host Providence for another non-league match on Friday.

Dos Pueblos vs. Thousand Oaks, Agoura

The Chargers fell to both Thousand Oaks and Agoura High in non-league action on Wednesday.

Dos Pueblos battled to a five-set loss to Thousand Oaks, 21-25, 27-29, 25-18, 25-22, 10-15, and was swept by Agoura, 21-25, 16-25, 23-25.

“We were focused from the service line (against Thousand Oaks) and read the opponent’s attack much better as the match wore on,” Dos Pueblos head coach Ehren Hug said. “The Chargers fell short in their second match as well, but I’m proud of our defensive adjustments and engagement this match.”

Ben Wojogbe totaled 17 kills on the day for the Chargers, while Caleb Damron tallied 11 of his own.

Dos Pueblos (11-9, 4-3 Channel League) will open the Santa Barbara Tournament against St. John Bosco on Friday at 12:45 p.m. at Santa Barbara High.
