Bud Greene was born on Sept. 13, 1929 in Portland, Oregon. He died on Dec. 27, 2025.
Bud was second of four children born to William Edgar and Edna Frances Greene. The other children were Naomi (deceased), Wanita and Wanda (a.k.a. Sally, deceased). He also had a half brother who was eight years older, Dick Greene. The only surviving sibling now is Wanita, still living in Portland.
Bud was married to Mary Esther (Sorensen) Greene Repetski for 41 years, then to Sara Darlene (Haynes) Greene for 15 years. Both precede him in death.
Bud’s children are Ray, Donna and Jeff, plus step children Dennis and Delice (deceased). He had 11 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
Bud loved cars. They were like landmarks in his life. The cars his dad owned and then the ones he owned. He bought his first car, a Model T Ford, for $10. He spent his life acquiring cars, some of them needing work like rebuilding the engines.

Out of high school at 17, Bud enlisted in the U.S. Navy and spent most of his three years as a Fleet Marine Force/Marine Corps medic. He was proud of the fact that he spent a year in Queens, New York, in charge of a positive TB ward, giving penicillin shots to all the afflicted soldiers twice a day, often without even waking them.
Upon his return from the service, Bud went to Moler Barber College in Portland and spent the next 10 years barbering.
In the meantime, he met his future wife Mary, at church. They married when he was 23 and she was 18. They lived in Dundee, Oregon, about 30 miles southwest of Portland, in a small house that had a separate building next door that Bud turned into his one-chair barbershop.
Bud eventually went back to school to become a teacher, starting at George Fox College, then Portland State, and eventually Lewis and Clark College. He ended up getting a BA and an MAT.
Bud taught at Tigard High School before accepting a job at Cabrillo High School in Vandenberg, teaching English and German. After a couple years, Bud took a job teaching English at Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, where he worked his way to the top seniority over many years. He also taught at Allen Hancock College in Santa Maria.
Bud eventually wanted to go into the ministry and worked to get a masters in divinity. At the time, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law had a church in Santa Barbara called Melodyland, an offshoot of the one in Anaheim, California.
Bud started commuting to Melodyland in Anaheim for classes and worked to get his Mdiv. He pastored a church in Santa Barbara called God’s House before moving to Pukalani, Maui, at the base of Haleakala Crater to pastor a church there.
A European tour turned out to be the next adventure. Bud and Mary bought one month’s worth of Britrail passes and three months Eurorail passes and took off with their son Jeff. Another adventure was living in Japan teaching English with Youth With a Mission.
After living in Japan, Bud pastored a church in Kapa’a’ Kauai. They eventually moved back to their house in Santa Barbara to be near their kids and grandchildren.
Later in life, Bud married Sara Darlene Haines and they ended up moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma, into the house in which his wife grew up. After many happy years together, Sara Darlene got Alzheimer’s and eventually passed away during Covid, when he wasn’t able to be with her.
Bud leaves behind many family and friends who will miss him dearly. Plus all the kids he taught and influenced during his teaching career and many years of ministry.
