A Buellton woman was arrested early Sunday for allegedly trying to stab her boyfriend to death, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Lydia Alicia Gonzales, 40, was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and domestic violence, said Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.

Bail was set at $1 million.

The incident began shortly before 2 a.m., when a sheriff’s deputy came upon a man down in the roadway on Highway 246 at Valley Station Drive, Zick said.

“As the deputy attempted to usher the subject from the roadway, he discovered that the man had several stab wounds and lacerations to the shoulder, hip, chest, back and hand” Zick said.

The injured man told deputies that his girlfriend had stabbed him, and was inside a nearby residence on the 200 block of Valley Station Drive.

While deputies were rendering aid to the victim and attempting to control his bleeding, Gonzales allegedly stepped outside of the home and threw cans of beer at them, Zick said.

“Gonzales was quickly taken into custody, and was safely restrained despite being extremely combative,” Zick said.

The victim was transported to a local hospital, and was in stable condition, she added.
