A Cabrillo High School student who had a loaded handgun in his possession was arrested on campus Thursday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, School Resource Deputy Dunn at the Vandenberg Village campus contacted an 18-year-old student for a probation search, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Raquel Zick said.
Jesus BarajasLemus possessed a loaded handgun that was not registered to him, Zick said.
BarajasLemus will be booked at the Northern Branch Jail. His bail amount and booking charges were pending.
“Cabrillo High School was not asked to take any protective measures as the student was arrested contemporaneous to the discovery of the handgun,” Zick said.
Dunn has been working together with Cabrillo High administrators on this case in a continued effort to ensure the safety of the students and staff.
“There are no additional campus safety concerns directly related to this incident,” Zick added.
