A four-goal effort from freshman Caroline Cooney lifted Carpinteria High girls soccer to a 6-0 Citrus Coast League win over Nordhoff on Friday night in Ojai.

Cooney made her presence felt throughout the night with two goals in the first half and two more in the second half.

She scored the first goal of the night in the 28th minute and quickly followed that up with her second in the 33rd minute to give her team a 2-0 lead at halftime.

The sister duo of Evelyn and Yoselyn Lara kept the momentum going for the Warriors in the second half, as Evelyn scored in the 43rd minute and Yoselyn found the back of the net in the 54th minute to double the lead to 4-0.

Cooney then capped off her stellar night with her third and fourth goals of the match in the 64th and 72nd minutes, respectively, to seal the win.

“Caroline had an outstanding match tonight. She showed some great composure and maturity tonight, first in her natural forward position but also in the center midfield spot she played in the second half,” Carpinteria High head coach Freddy Martinez said.

“With the league season winding down and the postseason on the horizon, I feel we are beginning to peak at the right time.”

The Warriors (11-1-2, 7-1-1 CCL) will be on the road against Malibu on Monday.

Boys Soccer

The Carpinteria High boys soccer team secured a 4-1 victory over Nordhoff on Friday in Carpinteria.

The Warriors wasted no time getting started, as Yael Rosales scored in the fifth minute and Carlos Garcia netted a goal in the next few minutes to take an early 2-0 lead.

Nordhoff scored late in the first half to cut the deficit to just one goal heading into halftime.

Meanwhile, Alexis Ramirez and Cesar Jaime rounded out the Warrior scoring with goals for the 4-0 win.
