Carpinteria High track & field came out on top of a league meet with Foothill Tech on Thursday in Carpinteria.
The Warriors boys outscored the Dragons by a score of 193-109, while the Carpinteria girls earned a 205-191 victory.
“Today’s meet was advantageous for us coming off of spring break,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “It gave us a chance to get back in the groove without the pressure of having to score points in a league dual meet. We were able to experiment with a few things and rest a few minor injuries.”
The Carpinteria girls 4×100 relay team of Isla Moore, Giarys Gomez, Vivian Huskins and Kaydance Gardner crossed the finish line in 50.34 seconds to set a new program record that was set earlier in the year.
“The amazing part of the record is that it was almost a completely different team than the previous record team. Only Vivian was on both teams,” Latham said. “The previous record-holding team was comprised of freshmen and sophomores. Today’s team was comprised of juniors and seniors.”
Huskins also shined individually with first-place finishes in the 100 and 200-meter races at 12.69 and 26.40 seconds, respectively.
The other girls individual winners were Izzy Scott (300 hurdles, 51.65), Vicky Martinez (3,200 meter, 14:37.53), Merely Avalos (shot put, 29-11.75) and Caroline Cooney (triple jump, 32-3.5).
Meanwhile, Moore, Gomez and Gardner were joined by Halleh Gahan to take first place in the 4×400 relay with a time of 4:16.26.
Isaac Sanchez was the lone double individual event winner for the Warrior boys as he placed first in the 110 high hurdles at 18.62 seconds and the 300 intermediate hurdles at 49.08 seconds.
The Carpinteria High boys team also got victories from Eli Perez (shot put, 39-6), Caleb Kelly (discus, 113-6), Josiah Gonzales (high jump, 5-6), Noah Gutierrez (triple jump, 35-5), Jeremy Haines (pole vault, 9-6) and Christian Dominguez (3,200-meter, 12:00.29).
The Warriors will now turn their attention to hosting the annual Russell Cup next Saturday.
