Carpinteria freshman Asher Smith swam an automatic CIF qualifying time of 1:03.9 in the 100 meter backstroke Wednesday, highlighting dominant performances for both the boys and girls teams in beating Fillmore.

Freshman Lilli Nemetz hit a CIF consideration time in her first high school swim meet in the 200 individual medley, with a time of 2:51.89.

The Warrior boys beat Fillmore 107-27 to go 3-0 both overall and in Citrus Coast League. The girls prevailed 71-49 to also go 3-0 both overall and in league.

“It’s a tough reach to get athletes to be the top 16 for D4 in the entire Southern Section when you’re with a small team from a small school of about 600 that doesn’t even have their own pool, but we’re determined to try,” Carpinteria coach Sergio Castaneda said.
