Cate baseball suffered a walk-off loss to Dunn, 9-8, in its Frontier League opener on Tuesday in Santa Ynez.
“We lost to a good team today but felt like we let one slip away a bit,” Rams head coach David Soto said. “We had a lead for the majority of the game, but credit to Dunn for making big plays when they had to.
“We showed great heart by fighting back and taking a lead late, but just couldn’t hold on.”
Peter Lehman had a big day at the plate for Cate, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs. Meanwhile, Quinn Pullen tallied a pair of hits for the Rams.
Pullen got the start as well, striking out eight in five innings of work. Noah Casbarro, Jonah Van and Andrew Tanner all contributed in relief.
Cate and Dunn will meet again for a rematch on Friday at 4 p.m. in Carpinteria.
