Cate boys soccer’s George Marin and Carpinteria High girls basketball’s Jamaica Cook led their teams to several wins last week en route to Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.


The pairing will be honored at the first luncheon of the New Year on Monday, Jan. 12, at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Marin showcased his offensive ability as the Rams picked up their first two victories of the young season.
He began the week with a hat trick in a 6-0 victory over Foothill Tech and stayed hot with a whopping five goals in a 9-0 rout of Coast Union.
Cook dominated the painted area for the Warriors, registering three double-doubles while totaling 14 blocks across the three victories.
She tallied 12 points and 19 rebounds in a win over Magnolia, put up 18 points and 10 rebounds in a victory over Nordhoff, and capped off the week with a 15-point, 22-rebound performance against Del Sol.
The boys honorable mentions were Luis Campos (SM Soccer), Ricardo Diaz-Rea (Bishop Soccer), Baylor Wilson (Laguna Soccer), Wyatt Gardiner (DP Basketball) and Koji Hefner (SM Basketball).
The girls honorable mentions were Charlotte Raisin (SM Water Polo), Reagan Mack (DP Water Polo), Jules Horton (SB Water Polo), Carly Letendre (DP Basketball), Izzy Schow (SM Basketball) and Caroline Cooney (Carp Soccer).
The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
