A fire heavily damaged a boarded-up single-family house in Lompoc on Monday morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., emergency dispatchers were alerted about a possible structure fire on the 200 block of West Chestnut Avenue.

Lompoc police officers confirmed heavy smoke and flames at the site before firefighters from the Lompoc Fire Department arrived.

“Crews initiated fire attack and, because of structural integrity and fire conditions, extinguished the fire from the exterior,” Battalion Chief Cody Lee said.

The fire was reported knocked down at 7:36 a.m.

In addition to Lompoc police officers and firefighters, personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and Vandenberg Space Force Base also assisted.

Crews were able to keep the fire from spreading to nearby residences.

No injuries were reported due to the fire.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation Monday afternoon, city staff said.
