Lompoc Chalks will host a weekend of arts and entertainment Oct. 17-19 at the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building.

The free community event will feature colorful chalk art, live entertainment, youth activities, food trucks, and local vendors.

The main attraction — the sidewalk/street chalk art — will be created over the course of the weekend. Artists begin the chalk masterpieces early Saturday, and the public can watch their progress throughout the weekend.

Organizers are looking for sponsors; volunteer artists who will create chalk-art masterpieces; and local vendors to sell their wares in the Lompoc Chalks Marketplace.

Learn more about sponsorship opportunities and find artist and vendor registration details at lompoctheatre.org/chalks. Email questions about the event to lompocchalks@gmail.com.

The festivities open with the Meet the Artists Kick-Off, 5-8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 17. Attendees can enjoy live music, wine tasting, and a Children’s Chalking Class. While admission is free, food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The chalk festival will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 18-19, with live entertainment from local musicians, dance groups, and other performers onstage.

For children the Kid’s Corner will offer complimentary kids squares to decorate, face painting, and crafts.

Food trucks and vendors will be onsite, as well as a beer, wine and beverage bar for adults.

Lompoc Chalks is made possible thanks to sponsors including Explore Lompoc, the Santa Barbara Bowl Foundation, and KTKB Enterprises, and through direct donations from the community.

All proceeds raised from the annual event go directly to the restoration of the historic Lompoc Theatre, which is currently undergoing Phase II renovations with plans to open in a limited capacity next year.
