Nearly 100 Pioneer Valley High School (PVHS) seniors were honored recently for their decision to pursue higher education at four-year institutions.

At the event, students were called to the outside stage by the name of the school they are planning to attend. The students then announced their name and intended study major, and signed a letter of intent.

“I appreciated being able to be celebrated with my friends. It is cool to see where all of my peers will be attending, and to stand beside them as they signed their letters of intent,” said senior Kaleolani Ilac, who will be attending UCLA in the fall to study political science and pre-law.

“It’s comforting to know that I won’t be alone in my college education, and that my friends and peers will also be overcoming the challenges and celebrating the successes forthcoming in college,” Ilac said.

“We are really excited to celebrate the students,” said Juan Antonio-Martinez, PVHS’ Early Academic Outreach Program (EAOP) college site coordinator.

“This year has been a struggle, but they have overcome the challenges, and we are really proud to celebrate their accomplishments and see them excel in their academic pursuits to higher education,” Antonio-Martinez said.
