The Coroner’s Bureau identified a 30-year-old Fillmore man as the person struck and killed by a vehicle along Highway 101 last week.
Around 12:35 p.m. on Aug. 15, Jose Regalado Jr. was walking along the right shoulder of southbound Highway 101 near Las Varas Canyon Road, next to his parked Ford F350 truck, when he was hit and killed by a passing vehicle.
The driver, Timothy Bee, 76, of Solvang, was traveling in his Chevrolet Suburban in the right-hand lane. For unknown reasons, he veered to the right onto the shoulder and hit Regalado Jr. and the parked truck, the California Highway Patrol said.
Bee immediately stopped his vehicle, pulled over to call 9-1-1 and waited for emergency responders, the CHP said. The agency is still investigating the cause of the collision.
Bee was not arrested at the scene, according to the CHP incident report.
Several bystanders pulled over to provide medical aid to Regalado Jr., including CPR and using an AED (automated external defibrillator). However, Regalado Jr. was declared deceased at the scene, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The CHP asks anyone with information about the fatal crash to contact officers at 805.770.4800.
