The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Coroners’ Bureau on Wednesday identified the pickup truck driver killed in a single-vehicle crash on West Camino Cielo in Goleta last month as 52-year-old Rene Richard Ramos from Santa Barbara.

Emergency personnel responded on Feb. 21 just after 9:30 p.m. after receiving an Apple crash notification for the area between 6927 and 7014 West Camino Cielo, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Responders found a 2025 black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that had crashed roughly 300 feet down the slope, and located the body of a middle-aged man in steep, vegetated terrain.

“The Toyota travelled off the roadway, overturned, and rolled down an embankment,” a CHP spokesperson said in a social media post last month. “The driver of the Toyota was ejected and sustained major injuries. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Santa Barbara County Search and Rescue personnel and the Santa Barbara County Air Support Unit were called in to help with recovery.

County Fire Capt. Mike Gray told Noozhawk last month that responders used a drone to determine there were no other victims in the crash.
