Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested one man on felony charges — which included carrying a loaded handgun — and two on misdemeanor drug charges on Wednesday after responding to suspicious activity near Home Depot at the Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta.
Deputies responded to the area after a “concerned customer” called and said two men inside a parked blue Jeep Cherokee “put on ski masks and crouch[ed] down after dropping off a third individual who entered the store,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Raquel Zick said.
The two men in the car were “uncooperative” when contacted by deputies, Zick said. As one was removed from the vehicle, the other was reportedly seen “making furtive movements consistent with attempting to conceal an item in his lap.” Deputies spotted a handgun and “safely secured” it at gunpoint,” Zick said.
Deputies detained the third man inside of Home Depot.
A Santa Barbara man, 26-year-old Malik Brown Asad, was booked on carrying a loaded firearm, being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm, transportation of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and possession of a controlled substance while armed.
He was also booked on misdemeanor drug charges. His bail is $50,000.
Ryan Anthony Hammond of Summerland, 46, and Nicholas Christopher Dudley of Los Angeles, 37, were booked on misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Dudley and Hammond were allegedly found in possession of fentanyl and drug paraphernalia; and Asad in possession of fentanyl, methamphetamine, cocaine and other items “consistent with drugs sales,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
