
Dionicio H. Farias, also known by “Nicho” or “Nick,” age 84, born in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, on Sept. 24, 1940, passed away Jan. 21, 2025 at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital following a short fight with cancer.
Dionicio was the son of Carmen Hidalgo and Cruz Farias. He met his wife Maria Luisa Ortega in 1960 and married in August of 1961.
They aspired to provide more opportunities for their growing family and came to the Santa Barbara area in 1967 with their four young children. In their 11 years in Santa Barbara, they had three additional daughters.
They became proud Carpinteria homeowners in 1978. Together they have seven children, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Nick was a residential and commercial painter for 30-plus years and retired in 2005.
He enjoyed spending his time with his life partner of 64 years. He accompanied his wife to the swap meet, grocery and shopping errands, day trips to the casino, and traveling to visit family.
He took pride in swing dancing with his wife to any swing dance medley the DJ could find during family celebrations.
He enjoyed most having all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren fill their house with love and laughter on holidays and birthday gatherings.
Nick is survived by his wife Maria Luisa; brother Clemente Farias of New Mexico; sister Maria Elena Avalos of San Jose, California; son Jose Farias of Carpinteria; daughters Julie Reyna of Oxnard, Delia Farias of Carpinteria, Ester Farias of Santa Barbara, Dora Allen (Michael) of Prescott, Arizona, Erica Isherwood (Neil) of Ventura, and Elsa McFarlin (Santos) of Ventura; his grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.
Dionicio is proceeded in death by his parents; brother Juan; sister Beatriz; and sons-in-law Darrick McFarlin and Christopher Manson.
Services will include a viewing and rosary, 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1532 Linden Ave., Carpinteria. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at St. Joseph. Interment will follow the funeral mass at Carpinteria Cemetery, 1501 Cravens Lane.
Dionicio’s unconditional love and kindness will forever be imprinted in our hearts.
