The Children’s Resource & Referral of Santa Barbara County (CRR) Discovery Museum invites Central Coast families to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day, 1-4 p.m. Thursday, April 2 at the museum, 705 S. McClelland St., Santa Maria.
The event focuses on the idea that every child deserves a place to explore, play and belong.
In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, the Discovery Museum will offer free admission all day for individuals with autism, and will extend operating hours to create additional access for families who benefit from a more flexible, supportive environment.
The event will feature interactive, hands-on exhibits and sensory-friendly opportunities that reflect CRR’s commitment to inclusive early learning and community connection, organizers said.
Local partners, including representatives from Assemblymember Gregg Hart’s office and community agencies, will be present to share resources.
“At CRR, inclusion is not a moment it is a mindset,” said Jacqui Banta, COO of Children’s Resource & Referral of Santa Barbara County. “This day is about more than awareness. It is about creating environments where every child is seen, supported, and celebrated exactly as they are.”
The Discovery Museum is designed to support early brain development, curiosity, and belonging for children of all abilities.
“Events like World Autism Awareness Day reflect a broader, ongoing investment in building systems of care that are responsive, relationship-based, and rooted in equity,” organizers said.
