The Choral Society’s Hallelujah Project holiday concert, featuring Dishwalla lead singer Justin Fox as celebrity narrator, will be 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10 at the Lobero Theater.
In the ninth iteration of the Choral Society’s annual holiday event Fox, who lives in Santa Barbara, will narrate an orchestral version of Clement Moore’s poem “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
Children from the Music Academy SING! program will also make a guest appearance onstage, adding to the holiday spirit of the Choral Society singers and orchestra, led by artistic director JoAnne Wasserman.
Among the concert’s choral works will be Bach’s “Magnificat” and Randol Bass’ “Gloria,” as well as familiar songs from Christmas and Hanukkah traditions.
The audience will become part of the performance, too, by joining in the “Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s “Messiah.”
Tickets are available at the Lobero Box office, 805-963-0761, and online at lobero.org.
The nonprfit Choral Society has been performing masterworks along with contemporary and commissioned pieces since its founding in 1948. The Choral Society has performed locally and internationally, and has collaborated with local performing arts groups including the Santa Barbara Symphony, State Street Ballet, the Music Academy, and Opera Santa Barbara.
In addition to his role as lead singer of the platinum-selling and award-winning rock band Dishwalla, Fox is a philanthropist, serving on the boards of several charitable organizations and performing at fundraising events.
The Music Academy SING! Program is a free, after-school choral initiative open to elementary students in Santa Barbara County. Performance opportunities include concerts and collaborations, such as recent appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, Joyce DiDonato, and the Music Academy Summer Festival production of Puccini’s “La Bohème.”
