Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse dropped a defensive slugfest with a strong Saugus squad by a score of 7-5 on Friday in Santa Clarita.
The Chargers stayed in the game throughout against the No. 13-ranked team in the CIF Southern Section despite missing four starters.
Saugus raced out to a 5-1 lead by halftime, but Dos Pueblos continued to fight in the second half. The Chargers held Saugus to just two goals and cut the deficit to one in the fourth, but they were unable to complete the comeback.
The Dos Pueblos defense was led by the trio of Jackson Sillers, Dean Wendel and Andrew Spencer, while goalie Kingston Strebel gobbled up 24 saves against a high-powered Saugus offense.
Austin Fauver scored twice for the Chargers, and Finn Nelson Walker, Wyatt Fauver and Dylan Wooten rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Dos Pueblos is now 5-4 overall and remains 3-1 in Channel League action.
