Double-doubles by Wyatt Gardiner and Coulter Jay helped Dos Pueblos boys basketball hold off Santa Ynez, 56-53, on Saturday to reach the championship game of the Jim Bashore Holiday Cage Classic at Carpinteria High.
The Chargers will play Pasadena Poly for the title on Monday at 7 p.m. Poly defeated Foothill Tech, 59-37, in the other semifinal.
Gardiner scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Jay had 14 points and 12 boards. The Chargers needed all of them as Santa Ynez kept battling back from deficits.
āWe were up by 10 late in the fourth but once again Santa Ynez made a run at us,ā said DP coach Joe Zamora. āWe were able to escape with a victory, and it was a good opportunity for us to find out where we are in tight games.ā
Guard Logan Pearce played a key role in the win, scoring 10 points and making three steals.
āHe had a solid game today,ā said Zamora.
Jude Pritchard knocked down three three-pointers and scored 17 points to lead three players in double figures for Santa Ynez. He also had eight rebounds and five assists. Gael Villalobos had 14 points and six rounds, and Lucas Ollenburger contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Santa Ynez will play Foothill Tech in the third-place game on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
