Dos Pueblos and San Marcos softball each dropped their final game of the Best of the West Tournament on Saturday in Santa Maria.
The Chargers fell to Oaks Christian by a score of 8-1, while the Royals suffered a 10-0 loss at the hands of Huntington Beach.
Dos Pueblos
The Chargers fell behind early, as Oaks Christian scored one in the first and two in the second to take a 3-0 lead. Meanwhile, the DP offense struggled to get much going and was held without a hit until the final frame.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Verekni Maniadi slugged a solo homer to account for the entirety of the team’s offense and bring the game to its final score of 8-1.
“Their pitcher kept us off balance all day,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said. “We put the ball in play plenty, but she got lots of soft contact for some easy outs. We struggled a bit defensively with some players playing new positions, which added to our woes a bit.”
San Marcos
The Royals couldn’t keep up with Huntington Beach, falling in five innings to round out the tournament.
Huntington Beach scored six runs in the second, plated three runs in the third and added one in the sixth to put the finishing touches on the win.
Isa Malarkey, Caroline Wang and Sutera Raring collected the lone hits for the Royals. Lucy Dessert and Caroline Wang allowed just four earned runs in the circle, as defensive miscues cost San Marcos.
