Dos Pueblos softball opened the 2026 season with a bang, rolling to a 14-0 mercy-rule victory over Fillmore High on Friday in Fillmore.

The Charger duo of sophomore Julianna Brunner and freshman Emily Morici combined for a no-hitter in the five-inning win.

“This was a great way to start the season,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said. “We’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, and we’re glad the weather cooperated so we could get this campaign underway.”

Morici’s first high school game was a memorable one. She went 4-for-4 with a homer, a double and four RBI at the plate, and tossed three perfect innings and struck out eight in the circle.

“Emily Morici had one of the most impressive freshman debuts I can remember, doing it at the plate and in the circle as well,” Gerken said.

Zella Cassidy opened the scoring with a solo homer in the top of the first, and the Dos Pueblos offense erupted for nine runs in the second inning to put the game out of reach.

Anastasia Brunner provided the biggest swing of the inning with a three-run homer, while Kacey Hurley and Cassidy each drove in runs on extra-base hits as well.

The Chargers totaled 16 hits as a team, with Anastasia Brunner, Vereniki Maniadi, Kyanne Bechler and Cassidy all going 2-for-2.
