Dos Pueblos wrestling placed 41 out of 92 teams at the California Invitational Tournament this weekend in Morro Bay.
“Almost all of the wrestlers we brought this weekend won matches, but all of them were in every single match and battled with their opponents,” Charger head coach Matt Bernard said.
“They continue to get better with every match; it’s really exciting to see them show grit and determination at these types of tournaments.”
215-pounder Ethan Ono led the way for Dos Pueblos, scoring 21 of the team’s 52 points with a 4-2 record and a fifth-place showing in his division. All four of his wins were by fall.
“[Ono] proved to himself he can compete with the best,” Bernard said. “His growth as a wrestler and leader has been great to watch this past season; he’s really owning his path forward.”
Meanwhile, Jason Dubbs (113 lbs.), Seamus Fergus (150 lbs.) and David Estrada (157 lbs.) all went 2-2 on the weekend and combined for 19 team points.
Sage Chavez (120 lbs.), Thiago Hidalgo (126 lbs.), Patrick Sullivan (138 lbs.) and Max Mazin (190 lbs.) tallied one win apiece to round out the Dos Pueblos wrestlers.
The Chargers will round out the regular season at home against rival Santa Barbara High on Tuesday.
