One person was killed early Thursday in a single-vehicle crash on Highway 101 west of Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
At about 3:15 a.m., a southbound Lexus SUV veered off the highway just south of Dos Pueblos Canyon Road and struck a no-parking sign before overturning and slamming into a eucalyptus tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Emergency personnel provided first aid, but the male driver and sole occupant was pronounced dead at the scene, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.
The man’s name was not released pending notification of relatives.
The right-hand southbound lane was shut down for a time in the area of the crash, which was under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
All lanes were open as of 8:35 a.m., according to the CHP.
Anyone who witnessed this crash is asked to call the CHP at 805.770.4800 and provide a statement.
A two-vehicle collision was reported in the same area around 7 a.m., and at least one person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, according to the CHP.
