Elizabeth 'Liz' Boltz
Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Boltz

Elizabeth “Liz” Boltz passed away on Dec. 28, 2025 at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara. Liz was born on Aug. 10, 1944, in Topeka, Kansas, to William “Bill” and Helen Boltz. She grew up in Topeka alongside her older sister Mary.

After graduating from Highland Park High School, Liz attended Washburn University, where she earned a degree in sociology in 1968, while also working in community social welfare programs.

Following the completion of her degree, Liz moved to California and began her long career as a child welfare social worker for Santa Barbara County. Her creativity and ability to “think outside the box” were hallmarks of her service.

Liz lived in Summerland for nearly 30 years before moving to Lompoc and later to Vandenberg Village.

Wherever she lived, Liz quickly put down roots and became an active member of the community. With exceptional vision and leadership, she stepped forward to guide organizations and plan events.

She served as board president of the Vandenberg Village Country Club, held numerous roles with the Mission Club Women’s Golf Association, and was an active member of Soroptimist International of Lompoc.

Liz was infinitely curious, adventurous, and always had a better idea. She made friends easily, and drew many into her orbit for social gatherings and shared adventures.

Besides being an avid golfer, she enjoyed ocean fishing, sailing and competitive card games.

Her wit and humor were unparalleled, and she was always ready for a road trip, whether cross country or local.

Liz is survived by her sister Mary Gale of Clinton, Tennessee; nephew Jeff Gale of Carrington, North Dakota; and nieces Janna Thomson of Clinton, and Jody Howe of San Francisco.

A celebration of life service will be held in August. For details, please email wjgale@psmail.net.
