Drivers of two speeding exotic cars were welcomed into Santa Barbara County with traffic citations after reaching 115 mph on Highway 101.

California Highway Patrol officers launched a special enforcement effort connected to high-performance car drivers en route to and from Monterey Car Week.

During a recent enforcement effort, a Santa Barbara CHP officer conducted a double stop on northbound Highway 101, north of Bailard Avenue, according to the agency’s social media post.

The traffic stop occurred after the CHP officer observed both vehicles traveling 115 mph, or 50 mph above the speed limit for the stretch of road.  

“Both drivers were stopped and cited for unsafe speed and reckless driving,” Santa Barbara CHP said on social media.

CHP officers appreciate high-performance vehicles — until they’re speeding on local roads.

“Monterey Car Week brings incredible vehicles to the Central Coast, but public roads are not racetracks. Speed limits apply to everyone. Slow down, stay focused and share the road,” the CHP posted.

Members of the CHP’s Coastal Division warned drivers, of both high-performance and routine vehicles, about the crackdown after prior years have seen drivers speeding through the area.

The enforcement effort encompasses the CHP’s entire Coastal Division, stretching from Santa Cruz to Ventura County.

Monterey Car Week includes a variety of events in the Monterey Peninsula spanning 10 days while celebrating automobiles and concluding with the 75th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on Sunday. Other events include displays, races and an auction, according to SeeMonterey.
