San Marcos girls lacrosse dominated the opening quarter and never looked back en route to a 17-4 win over Santa Barbara High on Thursday at Peabody Stadium.

“We spread the ball around pretty well, and this was a game for that tonight,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said.  “It was impressive the way players kept sharing the ball all night long and we slowed down the tempo quite a bit doing that.

“We have great pride in using the whole field and it shows the most in our clearing game.”

The Royals raced out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter and the Dons couldn’t recover. San Marcos outshot Santa Barbara High 31-10 along the way.

Victoria Aldana led all scorers with six goals to go along with two assists for the Royals. Meanwhile, Taylee Jones poured in five goals and Josephine Grossman tacked on four goals and two assists.

San Marcos’ Rylie Cook dished out three assists to help the potent offensive attack, while Carly Grant held down the defensive end with six saves.

As for Santa Barbara High, Mia Moelleken-Lezama led the charge with a pair of goals.

The Royals (9-3, 3-0 Channel League) and the Dons (4-4, 1-2 Channel League) will take next week off for Spring Break. San Marcos will meet with Dos Pueblos on Tuesday, April 7, in a battle for first place in the league.
