A fire broke out Sunday morning at the popular Chase Restaurant on State Street in downtown Santa Barbara.
Firefighters were dispatched shortly before 7:30 a.m., and were able to control the flames in about 20 minutes, according to Battalion Chief Cory Cloud of the Santa Barbara City Fire Department.
The fire started in a storage room in the back of the building at 1012 State St., with some damage to a wall and second story.
“Our fire crew did a really good job of making a rapid attack on the fire, confining it to the storage room and room of origin,” Cloud said. “It was limited to a small space.”
Cloud spoke with the owner of the restaurant and said the eatery will be closed for a period of time.
Georges Bitar, owner of the The Chase, told Noozhawk that he and his wife Nicole are working to re-open quickly.
“We will rebuild and re-open as soon as possibly feasible,” Bitar said. “We are thankful that no one is hurt. The Chase has been in existence for 45 years. We love this place and we will rebuild.”
Five engines, a ladder truck, and a battalion chief responded to the incident, Cloud said.
There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
