Fire damaged a building on the 400 block of downtown State Street on Tuesday night, and caused smoke damage to two adjoining businesses, Santa Barbara City Fire Battalion Chief Jon Turner said.
The fire was reported at 6:38 p.m., and arriving crews reported heavy smoke and flames coming out the front of the Indochine Lounge at 434 State St.
The fire also had broken the front glass window, Turner said.
Firefighters attacked the fire from outside the building and knocked it down there, and then moved inside. The building was unoccupied, and there were no injuries, Turner said.
There was minimal smoke damage to the two adjoining businesses, which both closed temporarily. Fire crews set up fans to blow out the smoke, he added.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Turner said crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and handled it with the first three engine companies that responded to the scene.
The Indochine Lounge nightclub announced it was closing in August and reopening under new ownership.
