Capps issued a statement on Saturday morning.
“After experiencing a medical emergency last Sunday, Hal Conklin is now recovering from surgery,” Capps said. “As he and his loving family determine the best course of treatment, they ask for your supportive thoughts and prayers. And they thank you for respecting their privacy.”

Conklin is president of the Santa Barbara Leadership Team, and has been hosting weekly meetings with key business and political leaders.
He served on the City Council from 1977 to 1993, including a time as mayor.
