Bishop Diego girls basketball shined on both ends of the floor in a 61-36 win over Foothill Tech on Thursday in Ventura.

After a solid first quarter, the Cardinals erupted for 22 points in the second quarter to pull away for a commanding 35-16 at halftime. From there, the Cardinals cruised to the Tri-Valley League victory.

Eden Wynne tallied a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Jaymi Coronado dropped 12 points. Luz Castro also stood out on both ends of the court for Bishop Diego.

“We challenged the team to play faster and more aggressively on the offensive board tonight and the team responded,” Bishop Diego head coach Jeff Burich said. “I was very happy with how we played as a team. We received contributions from everyone. It was nice to snap a four-game losing streak to Foothill Tech.”

The Cardinals (15-2, 2-0 TVL) will host Santa Paula on Monday.

Oxnard 54, Santa Barbara High 19

The Dons dropped their road matchup with the Yellow Jackets on Thursday in Ventura.

Shea Gannon flirted with a double-double for Santa Barbara, ending the night with nine points and 11 rebounds. Meanwhile, Savannah Margolis made her impact felt on the defensive end.

“Our rebounding was much improved, so that was a real plus,” Santa Barbara High head coach Andrew Butcher said. “If we can continue to rebound and do a better job with our offensive entries, we will be much more competitive.”

The Dons will continue league play by hosting Ventura on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Morro Bay 45, Santa Ynez 42

The Pirates came up just short in a matchup against Morro Bay on Thursday.

Helina Pecile had a strong all-around performance for Santa Ynez with 14 points, five assists and four rebounds. Lexi Molera chipped in nine points, two assists and two rebounds.

Boys Basketball

Carpinteria High boys basketball fell on the road to Santa Paula by a score of 86-47 on Thursday night.

Santa Paula was on fire on the offensive end in the first half, pouring in 56 points before halftime. That proved to be plenty of cushion as the Cardinals rolled to the win from there.

Chris Reed paced the Warrior offense with 18 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter.
