San Marcos 5, Thousand Oaks 0

The Royals picked up a non-league sweep of the Lancers on Tuesday at Ridgway Courts in Santa Barbara.

Cora Loomer/Evyn Miller won the No. 1 battle in straight sets, 21-19, 21-19, while Paige Hoadley/Char Hastings gritted out a two-set win on court two, 21-11, 27-25.

“Serving was a key to the victory, with Loomer stringing together runs of points in both the first and second games. Smart attacking by Miller was also a key factor in the victory,” San Marcos head coach Tim Loomer said of his ones.

“[Hoadley/Hastings] showed mental fortitude by winning a very close second game to close out the match. In the first game, the offense and setting were on point.”

The No. 3 pairing of Jeannie Johnson/Kelsey Rowe won their matchup 21-11, 22-20, and Isla McClintock/Rio Chesluk kept it going with a 21-12, 21-16 win at the fours.

“The offense of Johnson and Rowe has continued to develop while their ball control continues to be a stabilizing factor for the pair,” Tim Loomer said. “McClintock and Chesluk played some spectacular defense throughout the match, keeping pressure on their opponents.”

On court five, Kelsey Helton/Malia Hetrick won their matchup by scores of 21-19, 21-9.

“After a bit of a slow start to the first game, Helton and Hetrick finished off strong, carrying their momentum through a convincing win in the second game,” Tim Loomer said.
