Santa Barbara High girls beach volleyball went on the road and came away with a 4-1 non-league win over Royal on Thursday in Simi Valley.

“This was a close, well-fought battle,” Santa Barbara High head coach Kristin Hempy said. “We had a lot of games going to three and our girls did a great job giving full effort to clinch the win.”

Lola Heckman/Kira Elliot picked up a point on the No. 1 court for the Dons with a two-set, 21-10, 21-14 victory.

“These two had great chemistry and communication today. Kira set particularly well, and Lola had some powerful swings at the net,” Hempy said.

On court two, Santa Barbara’s Blake Saunders/Paylin Marcillac kept it rolling with a 21-15, 21-19 win.

“Blake and Pay had great communication and ball control today, as well as some nicely-timed swings on offense,” Hempy said.

Meanwhile, Phoebe Peterson/Talia Yoshimi battled to a three-set win at the fours, 24-22, 14-21, 15-8. Addy Duex/Deiliah Ficker rounded out the win with an 18-21, 21-14, 15-13 comeback victory at the fives.

“[Peterson/Yoshimi] endured some long rallies and had great ball placement today,” Hempy said. “[The No. 5 matchup] was another hard-fought effort, and they used some strategic offense by Addy and some really strong serving by Delilah to their advantage.”

The Dons (12-8, 7-4 Channel League) will host Oxnard on Monday at East Beach.
