Dos Pueblos girls lacrosse completed a season sweep of crosstown rival Santa Barbara High with a 10-3 victory on Thursday at Peabody Stadium.
“We knew coming into this game it was going to be a defensive game,” Santa Barbara High head coach Jessica Gastelum said. “I think our defense and our offense have really grown since our last matchup against DP.
“The Dons’ defense was able to cause so many turnovers and really held it down to make DP work for that win. I left the game feeling great about the progress the team has made.”
It was a low-scoring affair early, as the Chargers found themselves in front 3-0 after the first quarter and 4-1 heading into the halftime locker room.
Dos Pueblos pulled away in the second half, scattering six more goals across the final two quarters en route to the 10-3 win.
Linnea Clapinski continued to dominate on the offensive end for the Chargers with eight goals, while Harper Carlson and Shelby Moccardini rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Stella Lawler racked up 10 saves in the goal for Dos Pueblos as well.
On the other side, Mia Moelleken Lezama paced the Santa Barbara High offense with a pair of goals.
The Chargers (7-7, 5-1 Channel League) will be on the road against Thacher on Tuesday, while the Dons (4-6, 1-4 CL) are set to head out to Carpinteria to take on Cate on Tuesday.
San Marcos 18, Thacher 3
The Royals cruised to a Channel League rout of Thacher on Thursday at Warkentin Stadium.
San Marcos dominated from the opening whistle, leading 7-0 after the first and 12-2 by halftime. From there, the Royals rolled to the win to remain undefeated in league play.

Josephine Grossman and Victoria Aldana each eclipsed career milestones in the victory, as Grossman scored her 100th career goal and Aldana dished out her 100th career assist.
The duo turned in stellar performances throughout the game, with Grossman scoring six goals and Aldana tallying four goals and five assists.
“I loved seeing [Grossman and Aldana] achieve those marks on the same night but even more I liked it happening when we had seven different players score goals while we kept sharing the ball,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said.
The Royals got strong performances from up and down their roster, including two-goal performances by Hayden Jones, Noelle Medina and Aili Ludlow.
“Our youth movement is strong,” Ramsey said. “The youngsters do well every time they’re on the field and continue to impress.”
Defensively, goalie Carly Grant tallied three saves in an effort that held Thacher to just six shots.
San Marcos (11-3, 5-0 Channel League) will host Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland on Friday at 4 p.m.
Cate 9, Sequoia 8 (F/OT)
Lauren Hubbs netted the game-winning goal to give the Rams an overtime win over Sequoia High on Thursday in Carpinteria.
“I am so proud of the grit and heart this team showed today,” Cate head coach Renee Mack said. “It was a game of hard work and selflessness, and seeing the girls celebrate each other’s success was the highlight of the night and season.”
Sequoia came out of the gates strong and held a 3-2 lead after the first, but Cate battled back and grabbed a slim 6-5 advantage heading into halftime.
The Rams extended that lead to 7-4 by the end of the third quarter, but Sequoia came roaring back and tied the game in the fourth to send it into overtime.
There, Hubbs came through in the clutch with her third goal of the night to secure the victory.
Hubbs and Claire Bianchi each tallied hat tricks to share the team high in scoring, while Posie Hexner scored twice and goalie Chelsea Newlove collected nine saves.
