San Marcos girls water polo went on the road and came away with a 17-7 rout of Agoura High in Wednesday’s season opener in Agoura Hills.

The Royals jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back, cruising to the lopsided victory with every player contributing.

“I think we looked sharp early, and the five-goal lead early was just what we wanted,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said.

San Marcos’ Taylee Jones led all scorers with five goals in a game where seven Royals scored, and eight of 17 goals were assisted. Defensively, Carly Grant racked up 11 saves for the Royals.

Meanwhile, Victoria Aldana scored four goals and dished out a pair of assists, and Emma McCarthy recorded three assists of her own.

“Our midfield is really strong again this year, and it’s tough for anyone to get past them, but if that happened, our team defense held up, and we doubled well, protected the middle and drew a few charges. It was good team defense,” Ramsey said.

San Marcos (1-0) will host Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks for its home opener on Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Warkentin Stadium.

Linnea Clapinski poured in five goals to lead the Chargers, while Hannah Dawes netted three goals and Harper Carlson scored twice. Six players found the back of the net for Dos Pueblos.

In the net, Stella Lawler collected eight saves for the Chagres in the season-opening win.

Dos Pueblos (1-0) will host Westridge on Friday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.
